Safety tips

Practical advice for staying safe while dating online and meeting people in person.

Protecting your personal information

๐Ÿ”’

Keep your details private early on

Avoid sharing your full name, address, workplace, or financial information with someone you've just matched with. Take your time getting to know them first.

๐Ÿ“ž

Use in-app messaging

Keep conversations in the Flirtique app until you're comfortable. Our chat is a safer space than sharing your personal phone number straight away.

๐ŸŒ

Be careful with social media

Sharing your Instagram or Facebook too early can give someone access to more personal information than you'd intend. Go at your own pace.

Before you meet in person

โ˜•

Choose a public place

For your first meet, always pick somewhere busy and public โ€” a cafรฉ, a park, a bar. Avoid going straight to someone's home or inviting them to yours.

๐Ÿš—

Sort your own transport

Drive yourself, catch an Uber, or use public transport. Having your own way home means you're in control of when you leave.

๐Ÿ‘‹

Tell someone where you're going

Let a friend or family member know who you're meeting, where, and when to expect you back. A quick text goes a long way.

๐Ÿ”‹

Keep your phone charged

Make sure your phone is charged before you head out. Being unreachable when you're meeting a stranger isn't ideal.

Recognising red flags

Trust your gut. If something feels off, it probably is. Some patterns to watch out for:

  • Refusing to video call or meet in person, but pushing for deeper commitment
  • Asking for money, gift cards, or financial help for any reason
  • Pressuring you to move off the app quickly
  • Stories that don't quite add up, or photos that feel too good to be true (try a reverse image search)
  • Love-bombing โ€” overwhelming affection very early on

If something doesn't feel right, report the profile and unmatch. You never owe anyone an explanation.

If you need help

If you're ever in immediate danger, call your local emergency number โ€” 000 in Australia, 911 in the US and Canada, 999 in the UK, or 111 in New Zealand.
